Příbram is a city that surprises everyone who gives it a chance. At first glance it may seem unassuming, but just a few steps are enough to discover a place with deep history, cultural richness, and an interesting atmosphere. Whether you are drawn to architecture, religious landmarks, or technical curiosities, Příbram offers a diverse range of sights worth visiting.
Holy Mountain
The most important pilgrimage site in Central Bohemia is also a symbol of Příbram. The Baroque complex of Holy Mountain is visible from afar and offers not only a spiritual dimension but also a beautiful view of the city. While walking among the arcades, you can sit quietly or take part in one of the regular guided tours. The place exudes quiet strength and a calm that remains even after you leave.
Příbram Mining Museum
A vast complex that captures the city’s mining history, it is one of the largest museums of its kind in the Czech Republic. A special feature is the possibility to ride a mine train, descend into a shaft, or explore exhibitions dedicated to the lives of miners. The museum is lively, accessible, and surprisingly engaging even for those who usually are not interested in technology.
František Drtikol Gallery
A native of Příbram, photographer František Drtikol is among the world-renowned figures of the fine arts scene of the first half of the 20th century. The gallery bearing his name is housed in the old town hall and presents not only his work but also current exhibitions of contemporary art. The place has a distinctive atmosphere and is ideal for moments when you want to slow down and be inspired.
Church of Saint James and the Historic Center
The Church of Saint James is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It is located in the historic core of Příbram, where the original streets, remains of the fortifications, and several small monuments that recall the city’s past before the mining boom have still been preserved. A walk through this area has its charm especially in the early evening, when the city calms down.
Vojna Memorial near Příbram
Just a few kilometers from the city, you will find the former Vojna camp, now a memorial site and museum recalling the era of political trials and labor camps of the 1950s. A visit is not easy, but it brings an important overlap and a deeper understanding of modern history. The exhibition is clear and dignified.
Additional tips
If you have more time, we also recommend visiting the Ernestinum château, the aquapark at Nový rybník, or simply walking the educational trails around Příbram. In the surroundings you will find plenty of smaller chapels, memorials, and minor structures that complete the local landscape and history.
Příbram is not a city to be checked off in a single visit. It is a place that allows you to discover it gradually and without pressure. Each of the sights offers a slightly different experience, and together they create an image of a city that has depth, character, and a calm that stays with you long after you return home.
